Campaigner

The Environmental Justice Foundation is recruiting a Campaigner to work primarily, but not exclusively, on its its shrimp and aquaculture campaigns as well as on cotton and water. The post will be based at EJF’s office in London EC1 and report to the Directors.

*Essential requirements / experience*

A proven track record in the following:
- Superb communication skills – ability to give winning presentations in writing, face to face and as a public speaker
- A minimum of 2 years demonstrable campaigning experience in human rights/environment or a similar context
- Proven experience as a skilled negotiator
- Extensive experience of research and production of campaign reports and materials for publication
- Experience of field-based research
- Experience of working with, and contacts within, media
- Ability to identify funders and produce winning proposals for support
- High calibre project management and monitoring and evaluation skills. A clear ability to establish priorities, meet multiple deadlines and work well under pressure.
- Ability to travel, often at short notice and routinely work evenings and weekends.
- Education to degree-level

*Preferred skills/experience*
- Foreign languages an asset
- Experience of camera work (film and photography)
- A higher degree in a related discipline

*Salary*
This is a full-time position within EJF. Salary £28,000 - £32,000, plus contributory pension.
Holiday 20 days, plus all statutory holidays. Time off in lieu is not granted (there will be weekend work)

Communications Coordinator / Press Officer

EJF requires an ambitious, extremely able, highly committed world-class communicator to build the charity’s communications across all platform, building awareness and interest in all aspects of our operations, from campaigns to fundraising.

You will have at least 2 years proven experience of working with the media. A superb writer, you will be able to deliver winning presentations in writing and in person. You will have experience of working across all media.

Reporting to the Directors and in consultation with them you will build a communications and media strategy for each campaign and for our fundraising team and work with each staff member to implement these maximising positive media coverage and ensuring the greatest impact for our campaigns.

*Salary*
This is a full-time position within EJF. Salary £28,000 - £32,000, plus contributory pension.
Holiday 20 days, plus all statutory holidays. Time off in lieu is not granted (there will be weekend work)

Challenge Events and Corporate Fundraising Internship

The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to coordinate challenge events for the charity.

Working to really step up fundriaising events for 2012, EJF is looking for a dynamic intern to think out of the box and get involved in practical events. You will be responsible for the coordination of EJF’s existing challenge events as well as planning for future creative events later in the year.

You will be ambitious, a persuasive communicator both spoken and written and be an active user of social networking sites. You must be highly organised, and work well under your own initiative.

EJF is a small team and as such candidates should be flexible, autonomous and be prepared to take on other occasional ad hoc office duties as they arise.
EJF has a young and exciting work environment making this is an unique opportunity to anyone seeking to gain valuable practical experience of working for a dynamic human rights and environment charity.

Candidates must have strong writing skills, confident telephone manner, good internet research skills and a good basic knowledge of word and excel. A minimum commitment of 3 months (3 days/week) is required, candidates able to commit for longer than this are encouraged.

Energy Projects and Investments Internship

EJF has an excellent internship opportunity for one volunteer to continue building the charity’s energy projects and investments portfolio. The internship is a great chance to gain real-world insight into both the development process of projects and the origination process of investments in the renewable energy sector. The role will involve:

• Conducting thorough due diligence on renewable energy start-ups and/or project developments
• Preparing approvals reports for EJF’s directors and board of trustees, discussing the key commercial issues (economics, regulatory compliance, accounting, tax, operational risks) of a particular investment or project
• Identifying suitable locations for onshore wind turbine development
• Liaising and negotiating commercial terms with landowners and third-party developers

*Essential requirements*
Suitable applicants will have a demonstrated ability in working independently, excellent attention to detail and a proven track record of success in a commercial environment. Applicants will also need to:
• Have excellent written and oral communication skills – ability to present ideas and projects and draft suitably professional reports for EJF’s directors and board of trustees
• Have experience in financial modelling and excellent skills in Excel
• Have at least basic commercial awareness of key issues in the small- to medium-scale renewable energy industry, especially on Feed-in Tariffs
• Have basic familiarity with typical instruments for project finance including ordinary shares, preferred shares, bonds and loans.

*Preferred skills and experience*
• A 2:1 or First Class degree in a relevant discipline
• Prior work experience in project scoping and management in renewable energy developments

Applicants will need to be able to commit to a 3 day work week over at least a 3 month period, and be available in early February for a interview. The position will be based at EJF’s office in London EC1 and is available immediately. This is an unpaid position although standard travel within Greater London and a lunch allowance are provided.

PR and Marketing Internship

EJF has an exciting opportunity to join the Marketing and PR team for a three month intensive internship. The voluntary internship is a fantastic opportunity to get hands on experience in a broad range of areas within marketing by assisting on EJF’s prestigious and international ethical fashion cotton campaign t-shirt project.

You are not expected to have a great deal of marketing and PR experience but should be keen, willing and enthusiastic about the principles of the discipline and learning more with the view to forging a professional career in this or a similar area.

You should be persuasive with a drive for sales as the internship will run through the busy summer season when EJF will sell it's organic cotton campaign t-shirts to consumers over a range big and small scale events. Duties will include working directly with the Marketing and PR Executive to raise the public profile and income from sales of the EJF through the t-shirt project and related development projects.

The role will focus on recuiting volunteers, organising and running national events such as pop-up shops. An ideal candidate for this internship position should have the following skills:

a) Marketing and event enthusiast -- a candidate for this position MUST have a passion for marketing, promotions and events
b) Excellent verbal and written communications skills -- intern will be spending time face to face, on the phone and communicating via e-mail. c) Experience in managing teams -- candidate must have strong interpersonal skills managing small and large teams.
d) Organisational and computer skills -- intern will be drawing volunteer schedules and updating data in MS Word, Excel, (some prior experience with these programs is required); attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines is key
e) Retail and sales experience -- candidate may be asked to manage a charity pop-up shop

Web designer and technical support internship

EJF is currently looking to recruit a web designer and support intern to work with a highly experienced IT Consultant who leads EJF’s technical development as well as EJF’s Graphic Designer. The role will specifically include the development of EJF’s new website as well as ongoing development of EJF’s IT resources including ongoing support.

EJF is looking for someone looking to gain valuable experience with the following skills:

- Good knowledge of both PC’s and MACs and ability to troubleshoot simple problems
- Web design, HTML, CMS, CSS and some knowledge of PHP would be useful
- The ability to commit for 2 days per week for a minimum of 3 months.

Campaigns assistant internship – climate change and displacement

EJF is a UK-based NGO that works internationally to protect the environment and defend human rights.


EJF is seeking to recruit an intern to join on our No Place like Home campaign, focused on securing official recognition and assistance for climate refugees - people forcibly displaced from their homes and land by deteriorating environmental conditions associated with climate change.


The role will involve a range of tasks including research, brief writing, editing and proofing, transcription, and events coordination.


We are looking for someone to assist the campaigns team, who will take on tasks enthusiastically and carry them out quickly with attention to detail. There will be times when you will be expected to work independently. The successful candidate will have the confidence and initiative to do this.


Candidates with backgrounds in environmental sciences, migration and refugee law and/or human rights are preferred. A Bachelors degree (or equivalent) and computer literacy are essential. Fluency in English is required and proficiency in other languages would be an advantage.


This is a 2-3 day a week position for 3 months. It is an unpaid position but travel within London and a lunch allowance will be provided.
