Endosulfan is an extremely hazardous and outdated agro-chemical banned in over 70 countries, including all EU countries, the US, Australia and Brazil.

EJF is calling for a global ban on it through the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

India is leading opposition to such a ban, putting profit before people and planet. The Indian Government currently owns one of the largest manufacturers of endosulfan in the world.

Endosulfan is bad for people and bad for the environment:

PesticidesExposure to endosulfan has been linked to severe and debilitating physical deformities, reproductive problems, renal failure, and in some cases exposure has been fatal.

PesticidesEndosulfan can travel great distances from where it is sprayed and has even been found in the blood of polar bears. Its continued use in one country is a threat to the rest.

PesticidesOver 70 countries, including Europe Union countries and USA, have already banned its use.

Send a letter to Mr. Ramesh, Indian Minister for Environment and urge the Indian Government to show that it values the health of its people and the environment by supporting a global ban on endosulfan.

To: Mr. Ramesh, Indian Minister for Environment

Dear Mr Ramesh,

Please support a global ban on toxic pesticide endosulfan.

I am writing to express my support for the global elimination of the pesticide endosulfan under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

I urge the Indian Government to consider the weight of evidence against endosulfan, including a ban on its use in 70 countries as well as in the Indian State of Kerala, and to take positive action both at national and international levels.

As the largest producer and user of endosulfan, India is unique placed to lead the world in its global elimination. By taking this progressive step, the Government would show that it values the health of its people and the environment.

I look forward to hearing positive news and that endosulfan will be eradicated from manufacture and use in the near-term.

Yours sincerely
