EJF Response: trained and equipped FACT with essential cameras, computer equipment, internet access and GPS systems.
Success: EJF helped FACT gather essential information and testimonies and co-produced ‘Feast or Famine’, which was launched at a meeting hosted by the UK Ambassador to Cambodia and attended by World Bank, IMF and other representatives of the donor community, helping to put the issues firmly on the political agenda. | ||||
CedacGoal: Protect the environment and human health by reducing the use of deadly pesticides
EJF Response: train Cedac to produce a film on pesticide misuse and organic alternatives, using farmer testimonies to reach a wide audience.
Success: 15-minute film broadcast on Cambodian TV and shown at farmer meetings across SE Cambodia. | |||||
| JALA Goal: give voice to poor fishing communities in northern Sumatra, helping them to reduce illegal fishing.
EJF response: trained JALA in film, research and advocacy.
Success: Together we filmed illegal trawl boats and produced a film and report on the problems of illegal fishing and the threats to livelihoods in this remote region of Indonesia. EJF’s support helped JALA to introduce the issue to the highest levels of government in Indonesia, to international donors and to the media, giving an enormous boost to their efforts to raise public and political awareness of the issues and solutions. | ||||
| Forum for the Defence of the Ceara Coast - BrazilGoal: Over the past 4 years EJF has partnered grassroots organizations working to stop the destruction of Brazil’s precious coastal mangrove forests by commercial shrimp farms. Together we have undertaken field investigations and trained partners to make films for local and national awareness-raising.
Success: ‘Shrimp farming – a violation of the green’ has been used in public hearings into shrimp farming and broadcast on Brazilian television helping to secure wider support for the protection of coastal forests and the communities that depend upon them. | ||||
| Education for Nature VietnamGoal: Protect Vietnam’s environment and wildlife by using film to raise public awareness of the issues at stake.
EJF response: EJF has partnered ENV for the past 3 years, giving them video, camera and investigative training, enabling them to make compelling films and campaign materials.
Success: a short film featuring pop singer My Linh was produced to show the brutality and unsustainability of bear farming has been aired across Vietnam and shown on national television, and has helped encourage the government to ban bear farms. | ||||
